Light Painting

I had a great time shooting this picture.  It was one of those locations that I just stumbled upon and I stumbled upon it in the early hours of the morning.  It was darker then dark out when I rounded a bend and was completely surprised to see this iconic Vermont covered bridge.  I got out of my truck and turned off the headlights, immediately I knew I was going to have an illumination issue.  I could not see a thing.  My first attempt was to light the foreground with my vehicles headlights but they proved to be way to bright.  I would have lost all those beautiful stars if I went that route.  So after realizing I had not packed a flashlight It dawned on me to try something super creative.  I whipped out my Iphone and lit the complete scene with the built in continuous flash!  Actually I was surprised at the results,  I thought for sure I wasn’t going to be able to cast enough light in 20 seconds to get a proper exposure on this quintessential New England symbol.  Sometimes a photos most important ingredients are luck and a pinch of ingenuity.
